Derek meets Regional NHS Chief to urge re-opening of local Treatment Centre

19 Apr 2012

After raising the future of the mothballed Cheshire & Merseyside Treatment Centre in Parliament, Derek has recently had a meeting with NHS Northern England Chief Executive Ian Dalton, urging him to bring an end to the uncertainty about the future use of the Treatment Centre and ensure that it re-opens soon to provide health services for local people.

Following the meeting with Mr Dalton, formerly Chief Executive at Halton and Warrington Hospital NHS Trust, Derek said;

"This uncertainty has lasted for far too long and is a waste of a very modern and important facility.  Local people were consulted about its future use and have made clear that they want it re-opened to provide high quality NHS health care for our community.

I was pleased that I had the opportunity to meet Mr Dalton who has a very good knowledge of Halton because of his previous work here. It was a productive meeting and Mr Dalton promised to get a decision made as soon as possible and come back to me.  He has phoned me this week to confirm that work at the Department of Health is ongoing and he will contact me again as soon as a final decision has been made. I stressed to him that we have waited long enough here in Halton while watching this excellent facility remain unused. He said he fully understood that and would get back to me shortly."
