Derek supports 1GOAL Campaign with attendance at Halton Lodge School Assembly

15 Jul 2010

Derek recently attended a One Goal For All event at Halton Lodge Primary School in Runcorn.

The theme for 2010 is '1GOAL' to link in with the World Cup in South Africa. Send My Friend [to school] activities were held throughout the World Cup from 11th June -11th July.

What is 1GOAL all about?

World leaders have promised that all children will have a primary education by 2015 but with only 5 years left to go, there are still 72 million children missing out on an education completely.

These children could be our next generation's leaders, sports stars, doctors and teachers.  But they face a lifelong struggle against poverty.

It doesn't have to be this way. Since 2000, 40 million more children are in school. Education beats poverty - and gives people the tools to help themselves.

1GOAL is a campaign seizing the power of football to ensure that education for all is a lasting legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.  Raising our voices all over the world we believe that, together, we can make education a reality for the millions of boys and girls who remain out of school.

Derek said:

"I was delighted to attend the morning assembly of Halton Lodge Primary School to be presented with a Petition of over 450 names in support of 'One Goal for All'.  The children had put a lot of effort into the project and had produced some fabulous artwork. They had been well supported by their Head Teacher Mrs Gaynor Dickson and her colleagues.  I shall be presenting the Petition to Parliament in the near future."
