Derek Twigg Attacks Unfair Bedroom Tax in House of Commons

13 Nov 2013

Derek yesterday attacked the “brutal, callous and unfair” bedroom tax on the floor of the House of Commons yesterday during a debate and demanded “it needs to be changed immediately”.

Derek said:

“The bedroom tax is a wholly unfair and unjust policy affecting some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people in our communities.  Many constituents have come to my surgeries and contacted me highlighting the plight they face.

Many are struggling to pay, going into arrears with their rent and not having enough money for food or to pay for heating. I wanted to highlight the misery this Tory led government is causing. I also challenged the justification for the policy, arguing that the reasons given by the government do not stand up to scrutiny"
