Derek Twigg MP meets with Environment Agency over the issue of flies in Ditton

15 May 2015
Derek has recently been contacted by many constituents in the Ditton area who raised concerns that their houses were infested by flies.

Derek raised the issue with the Environment Agency immediately and met with John Leyland, Area Manager at the Environment Agency on 15 May.

The latest update is that Centrol Recycling went into administration last week and it is the Administrators who now have responsibility for clearing the site.

There are 2 qualified pest controllers who are spraying at the site 7 days a week and approximately 150 tonnes of waste has been removed with approximately 150 tonnes left to remove. However, the Administrators now need to sell off assets to raise funds before they can clear any more waste.

The Environment Agency are pressing to get results and will continue to monitor the site and undertake unannounced visits.

Derek Twigg MP said:

“I visited several constituents on the Bank Holiday Monday to see the problem for myself, the situation is simply unacceptable.

“It is appalling that this site continues to cause these problems. I have supported residents over the last few years in making representations to the Environment Agency about the operation of Centrol Recycling.

“I will keep in touch with the Environment Agency to ensure that the site continues to be sprayed on a daily basis and the waste removed as soon as possible”.
