Derek Visits St Gerard's RC Primary School to "Send my friend to school".
|18 Jun 2015
Last week, Derek Twigg visited St Gerard’s RC Primary School in Widnes to attend their assembly and talk with pupils about their work on the ‘Send my Friend to School’ campaign, which aims to get every child around the world in to education.
Around 57 million children around the world are currently not in primary education; approximately 24 million of those children have a disability.
Send My Friend to School brings together thousands of children in schools across the UK to campaign for the right to education, and remind our world leaders of their promise that all children should get the chance to go to school.
Derek said: “I was impressed at the great work that the students of St Gerard’s are doing to promote this issue, producing artwork and joining the UK-wide petition to the Government on this issue.
I very much support this campaign and I enjoyed the chance to see first-hand how pupils at St Gerard’s are tackling such an important issue.
I want to give my personal thanks to all the schoolchildren who have presented me with their ‘friends’ which I will take down to 10 Downing Street.”
