Derek has warmly welcomed the announcement by Network Rail and Halton Borough Council that the long-awaited works to refurbish Widnes Station car park will begin on Monday, January 17th.
The culmination of years of lobbying and campaigning by Derek and Halton Council, the works will last 18 weeks and will comprise the construction of an extended car park to Widnes Railway Station and the refurbishment of the existing car park.
The work will deliver new lighting, CCTV, new paladin fencing, height restriction barrier, new kerbs, surfacing and drainage.
On hearing the news, Derek said:
"I am delighted that the persistence and determination of the campaign to secure improvements to the car park at Widnes Station has been rewarded with this long-awaited announcement.
I am pleased that the design and approval process by the framework consultants Mott McDonald is now complete, following agreement between Network Rail and Halton Council on the scheme, allowing the much needed refurbishment to take place.
This will help to improve the accessibility, look and feel of Widnes station, which can only be good for its appeal to commuters and be beneficial for the local economy.
I look forward to seeing and using the finished product upon its completion."
