Government Admit Their Figures to Support the Proposed Closure of Castle View House Were Wrong.
|22 Apr 2013
Derek Twigg secured a debate in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 17 April 2013 to challenge the Department for Education’s (DfE) proposal to close Castle View House in Runcorn with the loss of 220 jobs.
The Government Minister, Elizabeth Truss admitted that the figures the DfE had based their proposal on were wrong.
She said; “...the information that we put out in the initial consultation has been significantly amended, and the information that the hon. Gentleman and my hon. Friend have provided has been very helpful in enabling us to reach a proper decision.”
Derek Twigg said;
“This was a telling statement and proved what the two MP’s, PCS and Halton Council have been saying all along, that the Government’s figures for savings do not add up. It’s a flawed case. The fact that the Minister did not even challenge the figures I put to her speaks volumes for the weakness of their position. We have still not seen any revised information from the Government.
The Government must now withdraw its flawed proposal and maintain its presence in Runcorn.”
