Derek Twigg MP and Mike Hall MP today welcomed a double piece of good news for Halton pensioners. From April 1 this year people over 60 and disabled people in Halton will be able to travel for free on their local bus service.
The MPs also pledged to vote for Budget proposals to make off peak travel free for over 60s and the disabled across the country.
Derek Twigg MP said:
“I am pleased that the over 60s and the disabled in Halton will now get free off-peak travel throughout the local area. For many older people this will mean they can go about their every daily lives as well as enjoy trips to see family and friends without having to worry about the costs.
“I am delighted the Labour Government is introducing free bus travel and I will be campaigning hard across the constituency to make sure that as many over 60s and disabled people as possible in Halton use their entitlement to free travel.”
Also, in last week’s budget it was announced that from April 2008 over 11 million older and disabled people in England will now be able to take advantage of free off peak bus travel in every area of the country.
Mike Hall MP said:
“Whether using the bus locally, or when visiting other parts of the country, this announcement means more freedom and more choice for thousands of people in Halton.”
