Derek Twigg MP today welcomed the news that the proposed new Mersey gateway scheme has moved a step closer when Transport Secretary Alistair Darling approved the scheme for entry into the programme of major schemes and agreed government funding of £209m.
Derek Twigg MP said:
“I have campaigned for many years for a second Mersey crossing and am delighted that the new Mersey gateway has moved a step closer. I would also like to congratulate Halton Borough Council for all their excellent work in taking the project forward.
The new crossing will relieve congestion on the existing bridge, provide an improved strategic link across the Mersey and open up opportunities for new economic development.”
