Local MP claims victory in getting much needed improvements to Runcorn Station.

Derek Twigg today welcomed the decision by Virgin Trains to invest in major improvements at Runcorn Station which will start in March, reflecting the importance of the station to business and leisure travellers. A First Class Lounge and Standard waiting area will be provided, served by a new buffet. The booking office and retail area will be moved and upgraded, and access improved for mobility impaired customers. Station staff will benefit from improved facilities. Improved cladding will enhance the exterior of the station building.

Derek Twigg said:

“I am delighted after many months of lobbying Virgin that this much needed investment for Runcorn Station is taking place. Runcorn Station is one of our most important gateways into Halton. For many people it is the first impression they get of the area.

A good rail link is vital to future investment and jobs here in Halton. The Government is spending around £8 billion on modernising the West Coast mainline, which will enable quicker journey times and extra peak hour trains to run between the London and Liverpool route.”

Derek Twigg also praised the staff at Runcorn Station, who have not always had the best conditions to work in but are always friendly and welcoming and are a credit to Halton.
