Derek attended a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the multi-million pound redevelopment of Wade Deacon High School in Widnes last Friday.
It was part of the last Labour Government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme in Halton. The Tory-led Government stopped the BSF programme as part of its draconian public spending cuts. However, following strong representations from Derek, including him leading a debate in Parliament about BSF, the Government approved the schemes for Wade Deacon and Grange School in Runcorn.
Derek said:
"Wade Deacon is an outstanding school and I was delighted to have attended the ground-breaking ceremony last week and see the pride and excitement shared by teachers and students about the brand new buildings and state-of-the-art facilities the school will gain. I am very pleased that it will also be a fantastic resource for the local community. Both Halton Borough Council and Wade Deacon Executive Head Teacher Pamela Wright and her team deserve great credit for the work they have put into the project." |
